Behaviour Services
Any puppy or dog - of any age, sex and any breed - can have a behaviour problem. This simply means the problem is more complicated, or more serious, than those which dogs typically suffer from and display. It may involve behaviours such as aggression, and is suitable for any dog who suffers from significant emotional distress caused by something in their world.

You will certainly require a behaviour programme - rather than our puppy or dog training - if your dog is displaying aggression towards yourselves, family members, including children, friends and visitors, members of the public, or your vet or groomer. We can really help if your dog is showing worrying behaviours to your other pets.

Behaviour problems are often more deep-seated, complex, and perhaps long-standing than regular training issues. Because of this, we will need your vet to refer you onto us - as well as checking your dog’s health, to make sure that illness or pain are not causing or exacerbating the behaviour. By diagnosing or ruling out underlying pain or illness which can trigger behaviour problems, it can help us diagnose the emotional causes and behavioural conditions.
Your vet may also need to be actively involved in helping us solve the behaviour problem together, by providing behavioural medicine which can help multiply the effectiveness of the behaviour modification programme.
When does my dog need a behaviourist?
Do you need more than dog training? The answer is yes, if:
Pain or medical factors might be involved.
When there is an unusual level of risk involved for any participant, including yourself, your dog or members of your family, and any member of the public.

Still not sure? Email us at info@animalkind.biz and we will provide you with a behaviour questionnaire which will help us determine whether you need this service instead of our puppy or dog training services.

The Process of Booking a Behaviour Consultation
Because this process needs to involve your vet from the start, the best way to get started is to:

-
Email us at info@animalkind.biz and we will send you a behaviour questionnaire which will help us confirm this is the correct service for you and your dog(s), rather than say our dog training services.

-
We can usually schedule a behaviour consultation at your home in about 2 to 4 weeks time. This can go ahead on schedule so long as shortly after, you:

-
Phone your vet's reception team, and tell them you would like it put on your dog's medical record that you will be working with Animal Kind Dog Training and Behaviour. This will allow us to liaise with your vet directly before and after the consultation, with a direct line of communication, saving time and hassle.

-
As soon as both steps above have been completed, we will then send a referral form asking your vet to officially refer your dog onto us as behaviour specialists. This is also a standard industry requirement when using a behaviourist.

-
If your vet has not seen your dog recently, they will probably wish to see your dog for a full health check prior to our behaviour consultation. Sometimes this is not necessary, for example if during a recent vet trip, your vet recommended you contact us.

-
Prior to your appointment with us, your vet should send us the completed referral form and medical history.

-
We then meet you for our appointment at your home!
